In case you hadn't heard, the Superbowl wasn't the only sporting event this past weekend. The Australian Open showcased some of the most amazing tennis we've seen in a long time with Rafael Nadal coming away with the championship when all was said and done. Nadal was definitely the man of the tournament, but the bright spot for the viewing audience had to be the discovery of his fellow countrymen, Fernando Verdasco. Verdasco and Nadal played an epic 5 setter, 5 and a half hour match Saturday morning that not only had some great tennis, but plenty of screen time for the hot Spaniard. It was easy to get lost in the points and focus on the tennis player and not the tennis. Él es caliente !

Good news came today for this week's Hottie of the Week. This morning, Josh Brolin was nominated for his first Academy Award. I know many of you will say "what, he wasn't nominated for his work in Goonies?!" No, surprisingly he was overlooked as Brand Walsh, brother to Mikey and tag-along on the famous treasure hunt for One-Eyed Willie's booty. Redemption is his with today's announcement of his supporting actor nomination for his role opposite Sean Penn in the film Milk. With the NFL season winding down, its time to pay homage to one of the hottest reasons to watch the hard-hitting game. We aim to please and we can't let a whole brooding band of beautiful brothers and one cousin go unnoticed. Caleb, Nathan, Jared and Matthew Followill started life in Nashville, TN trekking around the south with their father (Matthew's uncle) who was a minister in the Pentecostal Church. Not allowed to listen to secular music, it was only after their father left the church that they were exposed to the world of Johnny Cash, The Strokes, and Radiohead among others. In 2000 they formed Kings of Leon and made an immediate impact with their unique brand of southern rock sound which today is lauded much the same as their looks are admired; a little rough around the edges, but with an unmistakable intensity that draws you in unexpectedly.

Its hard to escape the glare of this week's Hottie. He's plastered everywhere, magazine covers, malls, t-shirts worn by tweeners, all in anticipation of the first screen adaptation of the highly regarded Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer. We must answer the call of the wild that resonates from the screaming and ardent fans of this book by admitting that they might have good reason to scream. While we may not be as enamored as a 12-year-old fan waiting 10 hours for 5 seconds of awkward hello's at one of the many Twilight signings this week at Hot Topic stores, you can see for yourself why we felt 22-year-old London native Robert Pattinson was worthy of some attention.

Thus to make life easier for us all we introduce (drum roll) the official Hottie of the Week Blog for your viewing pleasure and to keep you informed of what exists out there in the world of attractive, if even somewhat artificial (as in, sorry ladies, even Prince Charming had issues... and there was the whole turning into a frog incident... i digress), world of hotness. In all seriousness, this is just another one of those happy diversions whenever you need it.
